Floating houses

In South East Asia, flooding is a big and common problem. The floods devastates houses of many people, year after year. Building new houses for them cost a lot of money, especially when flood-proof.

So a Vietnamese firm, H&P Architects, has com up with a way to live with the flood. They’ve designed houses that are able to float. How? They build empty oil containers in the base structure of the house. That structure, and the rest of the house can be built of local, natural resources like bamboo. Also the architects have designed it in an easy way (see picture above) so the people can easily build it themselves. The houses are lightweight, which makes them float even more easy. They are secured with anchors, to make sure the houses don’t drift away with the flood.

H&P architects really designed this for the locals, not to make profit out of it. As flood is a natural phenomenon, there is no way to stop it, so you have to think a better way to live with it, which (I think) they did really good. Everything is made easy for the locals who will build it, as it doesn’t require expensive or not common materials and the structure is designed easy.

ONE THIRD: A PROJECT ON FOOD WASTE

One Third by Klaus Pichler

People living in the first world have got a lot of food to consume, actually too much. So many people put leftovers right in the trashcan after dinner, instead of saving it for the next day. Many of us aren’t concious about it, but this is a huge problem here on earth.

Klaus pichler, a photographer from Austria, wanted the world to be concious about the problem, so he decided to set up the ‘One third: a project on food waste’; a series of photos of rotten food on shiny plates or bowls, which makes a big contrast. Besides the photoseries, he also made a booklet where he explains the problem, with photos included.

I think the photoseries is such a good way to show everyone what they’re causing. Humans can remind pictures better than words, so photos who tell a story even better. The food looks beautiful and disgusting at the same time, because of the shiny silverware and the
I do think people will think about the problem after seeing this, but I don’t know if they change their lifestyle because of this, as many people aren’t creative enough to know what to do with those dinner leftovers.

COOLHUNT: ANDROGYN MODELAGENCY

Darell - model of Androgyn Models
Lately, people with androgyn looks are popping up everywhere. In case you didn't know: These people have got the looks of the other gender, or actually, both genders. An example is the well known model Andrej Pejic

"Androgyn people are beautiful". With that thought Androgyn Models was set up. A model agency especially for androgyn people.
What they say about their models:
Is it a man or a woman? It's a human. A human with beautiful curves or that perfect jawline. We don't think in gender, but in beauty.
I think Androgyn Models is cool as I definitely agree with their message to the world. We shouldn't categorize everyone, not even in genders. Maybe in about 10 years, we'll live in an androgen society, where it doesn't matter whether you're man or woman.

You’re at the airport. You just checked in and passed the security. What’s next? WAITING. And we all know, we probably have to wait approximately 45 minutes, but it feels like years...La Guardia airport in New York knows that feeling and came with a solution: iPads.

WISHLIST, NOVEMBER 5TH

1. Red/blue plaid shirt - Mango
This plaid shirt would go nice with a classic pair of skinny jeans and ankle boots for that cowgirl style with a modern touch. I especially like this one as the colours are contrasting which gives a nice effect, and the embellishments on the collar and pocket give a finishing touch.

2. Alexander McQueen: The life and the legacy - Judith Watt
I wouldn't consider myself as a fan, but I adore his creations (ok, except for the armadillo shoes which look ridiculously painful). This book, written by Judith Watt, reveals the truth about mr. McQueen's history and how he changed the fashion world by reinventing modern fashion. I already see myself reading this on the couch, with a cup of tea (and maybe wearing one of his items? Yes I keep dreaming haha!)

3. Tapestry printed boyfriend blazer - River Island
At first sight his blazer looks like it's from your grandma's closet, but when I saw Lily Melrose wearing it, I was sold!

4. Ciaté mini mani month advent calendar
Everyone who knows me, eventhough it's just a little, knows I love nail art. So this advent calendar from Ciaté is definitely a musthave for me! A new nailpolish everyday, which girl doesn't like that?!

5. Black loose fitted cardigan - Dorothy Perkins
Going towards winter, I'd like a few thick loose fitted cardigans with a bit slouchy look. They're warm, they're big, they're cute. That's all I need. And a black one goes perfect with pretty much your whole closet.

While the photography industry is increasing and developing even better cameras with even more modern functions than we could ever think of, people would also like to go back to basics. Just look at Instagram, inspired by the Polaroid camera, or the upcoming lomography industry, with their populair analogue cameras like the Fisheye camera, the Diana F+, the La Sardina? People want the old fashioned look, but in a modern way. So this is what they came up with: A magnetic fisheye lens for the iPhone!
